Design For Sustainability

Created with experience. Inspired by innovation. Sustainable. For Life.

At McLaren Divisions, we understand that protective packaging must deliver strength, reliability and environmental responsibility in equal measure. Our solid board and corrugated divisions and fitments are designed not only to protect products but to reduce waste, improve efficiency and support your sustainability goals.

By embedding sustainability into every stage of our design process, we help brands protect their products and their reputations – while protecting the planet.

Sustainable Protective Packaging Design

Every design decision matters. From board selection to structural layout, our approach to eco-conscious division packaging ensures your packaging performs without compromise.

We apply circular design principles to create solutions that are:

  • Strong and durable, using fewer raw materials
  • Easy to recycle through established waste streams
  • Optimised to reduce damage and prevent product loss
  • Manufactured from renewable and recycled fibres

Design Criteria for Sustainability

Sourcing

  • FSC-certified virgin board from responsible sources
  • High levels of renewable and recycled fibre
  • Preference for materials with low embedded emissions and full traceability

Efficient Use of Resources

  • Structural designs that maximise protection and minimise weight
  • Formats that eliminate unnecessary packaging components
  • Lean manufacturing practices to reduce energy use and waste

Design for Recycling

  • Use of widely recyclable materials
  • Simple constructions to enable easy material separation
  • Finishes and adhesives chosen to preserve recyclability

Measuring Carbon Footprint

We monitor and report on the full carbon footprint of our protective packaging, including:

  • Scope 1 and 2: Energy consumption at our production sites is sub-metered and tracked
  • Scope 3: Our materials and logistics are captured in our carbon database to reflect true environmental impact

This level of transparency gives our customers the confidence that sustainability claims are measurable, reportable and meaningful.

Eco-Design for Net Zero

By applying eco-design principles, McLaren Divisions supports you in:

  • Reducing packaging waste and carbon impact
  • Improving efficiency across your supply chain
  • Scaling sustainable division and fitting solutions
  • Meeting your net zero packaging targets
